What the published studies found
Early evidence · 2 studies
Joint Inflammation
The 2014 OARSI evidence-based guidelines rated avocado-soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) as of 'uncertain appropriateness' for knee osteoarthritis, neither endorsing nor rejecting it. A rat model study showed a protective effect of an avocado/grape seed oil combination on induced knee osteoarthritis, but this is preclinical evidence only, and no positive human RCTs appear in these results.

Psoriasis
A small RCT (n=13) found a vitamin B12 cream containing avocado oil to be as effective as calcipotriol for chronic plaque psoriasis over 12 weeks with better tolerability, though avocado oil was not tested alone; a 2025 systematic review lists avocado oil among herbal treatments studied but does not single it out as strongly effective.

Aging/Wrinkles
Only one narrative review was identified discussing avocado oil's antioxidant compounds (oleic acid, phytosterols, carotenoids) and their theoretical potential to mitigate oxidative stress and age-related degenerative processes; no clinical trials specifically testing avocado oil on skin aging/wrinkles were found in this search.

Burns/Wound Healing
The only directly relevant study found is an animal (rat) trial showing that topical avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) improved collagen content, wound contraction, and biomechanical properties of healing skin wounds compared to controls; no human clinical trials on avocado oil for burns or wound healing were identified.

Dry Skin
One small uncontrolled trial (n=20) tested an anti-wrinkle cream combining avocado oil with saffron extract, showing improvements in wrinkle appearance and elasticity, but notably reported no change in skin hydration, and the effect of avocado oil alone on dry skin was not isolated.

Fungal Infection
A single narrative review notes that avocado seed/fruit compounds (carotenoids, phenolics, fatty acid derivatives, antimicrobial peptides) show possible antifungal activity in preliminary contexts, but no dedicated antifungal efficacy studies, in-vitro fungal assays, or clinical trials on avocado oil specifically for fungal infections were found.
